CFP « Security BSides Rochester – April 6th 2013

CFP

CFP Guideline

We are looking for a variety of topics to be presented at this year’s con. We will only have one track this year, which means we only have room for six or seven speakers. We plan to have all talks recorded, to be uploaded to the Internet after the conference. At the speaker’s discretion however, we can turn the cameras off and have the talk be completely “off the record”.

Important Dates

The CFP will close shortly after Shmoocon (February 22), and final notices will be sent to all those who submitted by March 1.

Good Topics

Talks we find interesting range from highly technical exploit development discussion, to insane ranting about how the moon men are here to take over the world and ways we can use tin foil and duct tape to save the planet.

Bad Topics

What we are definitely not interested in is any talk where a product or service you (or your employer) sells is the primary focus (unless you’re talking about ways to pwn it). Similarly, it is expected that the talks will be less of a high-level or introductory explanation of a given topic, opting instead for technical detail and nitty-gritty, down & dirty, “here’s how to hack stuff” content.

Who Is The Audience?

When considering a submission for BSidesROC, it may be helpful to consider who our attendees have been in the past. We tend to have a very young crowd: 24% of our attendees in 2012 were between the ages of 18-23, and 53% were under the age of 30. This translates to a very vibrant community of folks, who want to engage with the speakers and have fresh ways of looking at topics. Our attendees have new, sometimes brilliant, ideas to bring to the table – and they aren’t afraid of speaking up and calling out mediocrity when they see it.
